Triamcinolone acetonide ointment is a prescription corticosteroid cream that is prescribed for treating various types of skin condition like from eczema, redness, rashes and the inflammation with moderate to severe acne.
When prescribed for acne this medication is very helpful in reducing swelling and inflammation but it will take a few uses to get your body used to the effects. Some patients experience dryness and irritation after the first few uses over their body.
Is it effective? The type of acne you have is responsible for it and the severity of your condition. Not all acne is the same and different types of acne responsible for different treatment.
The downside to triamcinolone acetonide (also marked as kenalog, Triacet or Tridrem) is that it can cause uncomfortable side effects in some patients. Common side effects include inflammation, itchiness, dryness or burning. Patients with sensitive skin may find the effects of the cream too severe and in some cases, it may even trigger and allergic reactions.
Typically, the cream has to be applied directly to the affected area two to three times daily. While applying, makes sure to first wash and dry your hands and face. Wash your hands again after applying the application and make sure not to get it in your eyes, nose or mouth.
Sometimes, triamcinolone acetonide is injected directly into the skin through a syringe for the treatment of deep, cystic acne lesions. Cystic acne is the most severe type acne, which is caused when inflammation goes deep inside the skin, creating a painful red “bump” that is often filled with pus. This type of acne doesn’t respond to over the counter treatment and won’t go away on its own. If left untreated, these type of cysts can even burst, spread and lead to more inflammation and even permanent scarring.
Though triamcinolone acetonide injection, injecting inside a person, will not prevent the development of new cystic acne lesions, they can help to clear up existing lesions quickly. To prevent new lessons from development, the medication is typically used together with another treatment. If you have moderate or severe acne, there are much available treatment options for the acne.
